The Dynamics of Autobiographical Memory Assink, M: Dynamics of Autobiographical Memory
The Dynamics of Autobiographical Memory Assink, M: Dynamics of Autobiographical Memory
Does autobiographical memory change through the lifespan? Which events do we remember and why? Do the memories that are important differ between men and women, between younger and older people? These are just some of the fundamental questions examined in this state-of-the art book about the course of autobiographical memory throughout life - a topic that is of increasing importance as people are living ever longer. Based upon a 5-year longitudinal research study using the LIM Life-line Interview Method, in which young, middle-aged, and older men and women were interviewed three times, this book provides a completely new perspective on the dynamics of both retrospective and prospective memory. What is recalled, how it is evaluated, and the relationships between gender, age, and memory over the course of life are reported, as is the "bump effect" demonstrated using the LIM, with older adults recalling a disproportionate number of events from adolescence and early adulthood, thus contradicting classical views of life-long memory. This volume also presents the first authorized version of Schroots' LIM Life-line Interview Method, which asks people to draw their life-line and tell their own lifestory for both past and future. Results obtained using the LIM should be interpreted, qualitatively and quantitatively, in the light of the longitudinal data presented here. A CD includes detailed tabular material. Dynamics of Autobiographical Memory is a "must" for faculty, graduate students, and professionals engaged in the study of development and aging, and in the construction and interpretation of individual life histories and expectations for the future.
Follower-Centric Approaches to Leadership
Follower-Centric Approaches to Leadership
New research on followers as fundamental participants in the development, impact, and maintenance of leadership processes The vast majority of studies of leadership are cross-sectional comparisons of leadership styles and followers' perceptions of leaders' styles; however, within the last two decades scholars have begun to study the other side of the proverbial coin, focusing on followers' styles and the processes of followership. The studies in this volume examine what it means to "reverse the lens" in leadership research by studying how followers perceive and enact their own roles in the co-production of leadership. The contributions highlight new research on followers' needs, motivations, and attributions as critical aspects of the leadership relationship. They present new theories and perspectives on the study of leadership and followership as well as potential directions for further research. The followercentric approach to leadership covers questions such as: . How do followers perceive followership, i.e., construct and enact their roles in relation to leaders? . What does it mean to be labelled a follower? . How do individual characteristics and qualities of followers influence the development of leaders? . What roles do followers' needs, values, wants, and preferences play in their tolerance or affinity for certain leadership styles? . What types of leadership help in developing effective followership and what types of followership help in developing effective leadership?

Bobby Owsinski's Deconstructed Hits: Modern Pop & Hip-Hop Owsinski, B: Bobby Owsinski's Deconstructed Hits: Modern Pop
You'll never listen to music the same way again! Producer, audio engineer, and author Bobby Owsinski takes you behind-the-scenes of 20 of the biggest modern pop and hip-hop hits of the 21st century. Using a technique refined after years of listening to songs under the microscope of the studio, each song analysis by Bobby describes exactly how the song was constructed and why it was a hit, examining in detail the song form, the arrangement, the sound, and the production. This is a valuable must-have for everyone who loves music, musicians learning about arrangements, producers wanting to learn how hits are constructed, audio engineers analyzing the sounds of the hits, songwriters looking inside a hit's secrets, and fans who love facts and trivia about their favorite artists. Every song analysis has numerous "listen to" moments pointing out small but significant changes in the arrangement or sound that you might not have noticed before. Plus you'll get all the song facts never found all in one place like release date, songwriters, recording studio information, number of units sold, and chart position. Time Series Analysis in Meteorology and Climatology Duchon, C: Time Series Analysis in Meteorology
Time Series Analysis in Meteorology and Climatology Duchon, C: Time Series Analysis in Meteorology
Time Series Analysis in Meteorology and Climatology provides an accessible overview of this notoriously difficult subject. Clearly structured throughout, the authors develop sufficient theoretical foundation to understand the basis for applying various analytical methods to a time series and show clearly how to interpret the results. Taking a unique approach to the subject, the authors use a combination of theory and application to real data sets to enhance student understanding throughout the book. This book is written for those students that have a data set in the form of a time series and are confronted with the problem of how to analyse this data. Each chapter covers the various methods that can be used to carry out this analysis with coverage of the necessary theory and its application. In the theoretical section topics covered include; the mathematical origin of spectrum windows, leakage of variance and understanding spectrum windows. The applications section includes real data sets for students to analyse. Scalar variables are used for ease of understanding for example air temperatures, wind speed and precipitation. Students are encouraged to write their own computer programmes and data sets are provided to enable them to recognize quickly whether their programme is working correctly- one data set is provided with artificial data and the other with real data where the students are required to physically interpret the results of their periodgram analysis. Based on the acclaimed and long standing course at the University of Oklahoma, the book is distinct in its approach to the subject matter in that it is written specifically for readers in meteorology and climatology and uses a mix of theory and application to real data sets.

Self-Control and Self-Regulation in Social Contexts
Self-Control and Self-Regulation in Social Contexts
Self-regulation processes operate on an intrapersonal level during goal-striving. They comprise cognition and behavior individuals perform intentionally and consciously (self-control) as well as automatic, highly efficient, and nonintentional mechanisms (self-regulation). Over the years, a sophisticated scientific tool box full of theories and models facilitating our understanding of the motivational dynamics in humans has been developed that has recently also advanced our understanding of social phenomena by linking the intrapersonal motivational processes to characteristics of the social context and its influences on behavior. Considering both, the intrapersonal processes and the social context of motivation, facilitates both - (a) the understanding of the sources and the influence of motivation as well as (b) the understanding of social phenomena. This compendium presents exemplary studies of what this mutually beneficial relation can look like. It provides new insights on how information concerning the social context affects motivation and behavior, how self-regulatory mechanisms can explain variance in applied settings, how self-regulation functions in the context of stereotype control, particularly when stereotypes are activated by the context, how implementation intentions (i.e., if-then plans individuals consciously commit themselves to) are suitable to prevent the impact of stereotypes on performance, and how automatic self-regulation functions and adapts in the search for a romantic partner. Also included is a discussion of automatic self-regulation, a core issue of self-regulation research, that provides new food for thought about and suggestions for further research on self-regulation and self-control in social contexts.
