Uwe Pörksen, geboren 1935 in Breklum bei Husum geboren, lebt seit 1968 in Freiburg, wo er von 1976 bis 2000 als Universitätsprofessor für Deutsche Sprache und Ältere deutsche Literatur gearbeitet hat. In den frühen siebziger Jahren begannen literarische und essayistische Veröffentlichungen. 1979 erschien sein Roman Weißer Jahrgang, der ein Bild der Skeptischen Generation der 50er und frühen 60er Jahre vermittelt.In den achtziger Jahren erschienen Erzählungen, darunter ein Kurzroman Die Missunder Uhr, der den 68er Aufstand in einem Schleswig-Holsteinischen Landerziehungsheim spiegelt, 1991 Schauinsland, der Roman einer politisch lebendigen Stadt, Freiburgs. Von seinen Essays sind die Bücher Plastikwörter. Die Sprache einer internationalen Diktatur, Weltmarkt der Bilder. Eine Philosophie der Visiotype und Die politische Zunge. Eine kurze Kritik der öffentlichen Rede bekannt geworden. Uwe Pörksen ist Mitglied der Darmstädter und der Mainzer Akademie, des PEN Club und der Nationalakademie Leopoldina.
